On May 11, the Planning Committee and Rural Affairs Committee will hold a special meeting on revising the Official Plan. City staff have proposed to expand the urban boundary of the City of Ottawa. Full City Council will meet May 27 on this issue. LCA has joined community associations across the City to urge Council to halt urban expansion. LCA sent a letter to Mayor Watson, Councillor Fleury and Councillors on both committees:
“During this term of Council you have declared both a Climate Emergency and a Housing and Homelessness Emergency. We applaud these steps because they acknowledge what residents of Ottawa truly care about: the affordability, livability and sustainability of our community, today and tomorrow.
In keeping with these declarations, we in Lowertown urge you to vote for an Official Plan “land budget” that does not allow expansion of the urban boundary but, instead, focuses on the existing urban footprint in a sensitive, environmentally sustainable way with respect for heritage character and compatibility with existing neighbourhoods.”
